WAYS TO GET RAINFALL AS SAID IN SCRIPTURES:

Our Bharath desha is suffering from famine and floods these days frequently.Insufficient rainfall,failing of monsoon,changes in climate cycles,abundant rain cause failure in agriculture.It leads to less production of food grains, price raise of food grains which makes poor people to be under poverty.

To increase agricultural productivity by getting sufficient rainfall is the need of the hour now.We are facing severe power cuts due to lack of electricity production by hydel-power stations,which finally leads to suffering of citizens.If dams are full, we will be self-sufficient in both agricultural and industrial sectors.So,RAIN is a must for the development of a country.

In order to get good amount of rainfall we need to adopt the following which have been prescribed by vedic scripture for world's welfare.If we follow the following its sure that we can get good rain.They are:

1. Brahmins need to do sandhya ritual regularly thrice a day to please the sun god by giving arghya(water offering with mantras) in time.This pleases sun god who evoporates water in seas and make it rain in land (in catchment areas of dams).It is said that only 1/4th of rainfall is falls in land & 3/4th in seas which is of no use.If we do sandhya we can get full rainfall in land.
2. Brahmins have to do agnihotra & aupasanam twice a day.As said by Manu maharishi the offerings given to lord Agni reaches the atmosphere in form of smoke which helps in formation of clouds .
3. Brahamanas must recite vedas daily in brahma yagya to get rainfall.
4. Brahmanas must perform yagyas like agnishtoma,athagnishtoma,ukkthya,shodashi,athitraathram, aptoryama& vajapeya atleast once in their lifetime(which is their duty i.e.among 40 samskaaraas).Bhagavath Gita says,

"Annaath bhavanthi bhoothani PARJANYATH anna sambhava:|

YAGYAATH bhavanthi PARJANYO Yagya karma samuthbhava:||" (Ch 3.14)

Meaning:

Living beings come into being from food,food is produced by rainfall,rainfall occurs from the performance of vedic sacrifices,performances of vedic rituals originate from intention to do Karma yoga.

Shlokas from 10 to 15 in chapter Three of bhagavth gita proclaims the importance of yagyas!

5.Performance of KAAREERA ISHTI brings rain immediately if performed in accordance to shastras.Many have seen this in reality when some villages were under severe drought.

6.Doing Varuna japa without consumption of salt in food by brahmanas.

7.Doing athithi sathkaara (i.e. feeding unknown guests) and bhiksha dhana(donating food) to vedic students(brahmacharis) and sanyasis daily.

8.By respecting rivers & other water bodies by not polluting them with human wastes,industrial wastes,drainage etc.,.Spitting directly in rivers,entering a river without washing the feet leads to anger of water gods who in return bring less or no rainfall.

9.Studying and teaching vedas & shastras daily.Or atleast helping those who do it,by way of donating money.

10.Proper performance of rituals in temples .Priest and devotees must worship in accordance to shastras.( see below TEMPLE RESTRICTIONS).

There is a famous saying in tamil,

"Vedam othiya vethiyarkku Oor mazhai,

Neethi mannar neriyinarkku Oor mazhai,

Mathar karpudai mangayarkku oor mazhai

ena maatham mummaari mazhai peyumae"

which means,

If Brahmins recite vedas, if Rulers govern the country in accordance to shastras(i.e.without corruption etc..) and if Women are chaste to their husband then we get rain thrice a month without fail.

So the onus is now on Brahmins,rulers and women to get good rainfall!

Why should we follow dharma shastras?what is varna ashrama dharma?

Dharma shastras (smrithis) are commands of Bhagawan,The Almighty.One who needs eternal bliss should follow these rules to purify their mind which will please the Lord to shower blessings to get Moksha!

Varna is classified based on one's birth by Bhagwan as said in the scriptures.

VARNA:(4)

1. BRAHMANA (Teachers)
   
2. KSHATRIYA (Warriors)
   
3. VAISHYA (Traders)
   
4. SHUDRA(Labourers)
   

ASHRAMA:(4)


1.BRAHMACHARYA(Studentship)
2.GRUHASTHA(House-holder)
3.VANAPRASTHA(Ascetic)
4.SANYASA(Monk)

Let us see some of the important rules as prescribed in the smrithis(dharma sastras).For the sanskrit verse see the link provided in the left-side.

For Brahmins:

1. Must have a shika(tuft),i.e.having hair in the mid-part & shaving all the other four sides of the head.
2. Must do sandhyavandhanam daily thrice.(during sun-rise,noon & sunset).
3. Must not cross the seas i.e.go abroad .

5. Must not eat the food cooked by other castes or impure brahmins to maintain their purity.
6. Must not eat the food which was prepared in hotels.
7. Must not eat during astami,amaavasya&Sunday nights.
8. Must fast completely during the ekadasi days.
9. Must not eat onion,garlic,drumstick,raddish,egg etc
10. Must not self-shave & shave frequently.
11. Must not shave during Sunday ,Tuesday ,Saturday, amavasya,poornima,ashtami ,ekadasi,pratama& chaturdasi .
12. Must not have moustache & british hair style(crop style).
13. Must not eat the food prepared by brahmins & women during days of pollution like pollution caused by birth & death.
14. Must not smoke or drink.
15. Must use only ground water for cooking and drinking purposes.
16. Must always have a traditional mark on his forehead.
17. Must not eat food that are made in ever-silver utensils.
18. Must recite the vedas daily to the extent possible.
19. Must perform aupasanam,agnihotram,vaishvadevam,brahmayagya daily before eating.
20. Must perform other paaka,havir&soma yagyas(totally 21) .
21. Must do marriage to their daughters within the age of 12 to get rid great sins as said in the sastras.
22. Must always wear panchakaccham.(traditional ethnic dressing)
23. Must reside in a place where dharma sastras can be followed i.e.along river-sides,villages etc.
26. Must not work under other castes as employees.
27. Must make livelihood only from teaching,doing spiritual rites in yagyas & accepting dhana(gifts) from the king & other people. During emergency cases he can do agriculture ,business & finance.
28. Must not earn money from illegal ways,by telling lies & especially by being a doctor,singer,astrologer, artist etc.,
 
For ladies:

1. Must wear traditional dress always & assist their husband in the dharmic acts.
2. Must cook only with firewoods or charcoal so that Daily Vaishvadeva Homa can bre done.
3. Must not wear fashion dresses.
4. Must not sport bindi stickers on forehead.
5. Must put Rangoli only with powdered rice for ants.
6. Must clean the house daily 
 7. Must not use plastic,ever-silver& iron utensils.
8. Must not go for working.
9. Must not go outside the house independently or wander without a valid reason.

After the death of their husband:

1. Must shave their head & cover it with their dress.
2. Must not wear kumkumum,gold,diamonds,flowers&cosmetics .
3. Must not decorate themselves.
4. Must be chaste & spend their time only in spiritual activities.
5. Must wear only ochre coloured saree.

For Kshatriyas:(The rulers)

1. Must govern their subjects as per sastras.
2. Must be well-versed in Dhanda-neethi s said in manu smrithi & other smrithis.Must learn Dhanur-veda(archery etc) from , vedas, sastras& politics from brahmins.
3. Must protect the down trodden,Physically & mentally challenged people,destitutes,orphans& needy people
4. Must collect tax like a bee which does not ruin the flower while sucking the honey.
5. Must respect the Vedic  Brahmins and do charities to them for the country’s welfare.
6. Must maintain the social setup.i.e.the Varnaashrama system of the society.
7. Must donate to somayagas for people’s welfare.
8. Must setup many Veda,sastra patasalas,Education Institutions to propogate the Vedas & its teachings.
9. Must equip his army well to FIGHT against the adharmic enemies & countries to save the people.
10. Must give the right justice to the problems as SOON as possible.
11. Must severely punish those who disturb the Brahmins &cows .
12.Must earn a livelihood only by those ways which are prescibed for them.i.e.Do their Kula-Karma (Business done by their ancestors)

& etc.,...........

For Vaishyas: (The business people)

1. Must do business,agriculture&finance.
2. Must protect & multiply the cow’s & other Animal population.
3. Must give charities to the Brahmins & needy.
4. Must perform shradha for forefathers as prescribed.
5. Must setup Annadhana chatras or choultries for the yatris in various spiritual places.
6.Must earn a livelihood only by those ways which are prescibed for them.i.e.Do their Kula-Karma (Business done by their ancestors)


& etc.,.....

For Shudras:(labourers)

1. Must do the labour activities for the other three castes.
2. Must feel blessed & happy to serve brahmins.If not possible under Spiritual Kshatriya or Vaishyas.
 3.Must do Pithru shradam with slokas regularly.
4.Must give great respect to Vedic Brahmins & holy Indian cows!
5.If he attacks brahmins & cows with his words or by his organs ,it is said in Dhanda neethi that the ruler should cut off his tongue & the organ which ill-treated Brahmins & cows.
6.Must earn a livelihood only by those ways which are prescibed for them.i.e.Do their Kula-Karma (Business done by their ancestors)

AND MANY MORE  dharmas for all the 4 varnas........

Common dharmas:


3. Must always wear oordhva or tripundra pundra i.e.thiruman or vibhuti.
4. Must do shradda(thithi)for their ancestors sincerely.
5. Must donate to their capablity to needy people DAILY.
6. Must speak only truth.
7. Must follow the sastric way of life in residence,food & dress.
8. Must not supress,torture & treat women as a slave.
9. Must donate generously to the brahmins for the world’s welfare.
10. Women must be educated and given full rights.
11. Everybody must respect each other.Especially the brahmins & kings.
12. Must save &protect especially our traditional cows(i.e.non-high breed varieties).
13. Must do gavaanikam daily.(i.e. giving green fodder to cows before eating).
14. Must not kill or wound animals and birds.
15. Must not blame & say other’s faults to anyone.

What is pithru dosha?

Pithru means our ancestors who seek offerings in form of food and water from their sons.

Pithru dosha arise when we do the following:

1. Not doing shraadha or atleast tharpanam (offering in form of water mixed withs seasum seeds) during shan navathi thithis (96 tharpanams i.e. during amavasya,birth of months,vaidrithi,manvadhi,yugadhi,ardodaya,mahodaya,ashtaka,anvashtaka etc..) in a year.
2. Not doing ashtaka and anvashtaka shraaddha.
3. Not doing pithru tharpanam in brahma yagya daily.
4. Not offering pinda (rice balls) in vaishvadeva homa daily.
5. Not doing pinda pithru yagya during every amaavaasya.
6. Not respecting our parents when they are alive and when we do not provide facilities and help them during their old age.
7. Not doing their funeral rites for 12 days from death as mentioned in the dharma shastras.
8. Not doing aupaasanam,agnihotra daily.

Above are the main reasons.There are also various other reasons to attain pithru dosha.

How can pitru dosham be rectified?

1. By doing the above mentioned rites properly one can get rid off.

2. By doing thila homam with great care.

3. By donating thila do vedic brahmins generously.(Not less than 30 kgs)

4. By donating silver to vedic brahmins.(not less than 1 kg)

 Rules that are to be followed by a woman during her monthly periods: 

1. Must not brush her teeth with toothbrush.Must only gaugle the mouth 12 times and use fingers to clean  the mouth.If impossible,atleast clean them with help of toothpowder with fingers(excluding the forefinger).
2. Must not apply oil to hair.
3. Must take rest in a secluded place for three days.
4. Must not do any household activities.(must take rest).
5. Must not beautify herself by seeing the mirror.
6. Must not cook for four days.
7. Must be atleast 8 feet apart from others,so that they do not pollute others.
8. Must not go outside,so that they do not pollute the environment.
9. Must not travel with other people.
10. Must take purificatory bath on fourth day morning after 8.30 AM and must see the sun for prosperity.
11. Must start cooking and do household activities only from the 5^th day.
12. Must drink water only by joing both hands. 

If they follow these rules they will be bestowed with good health,prosperity,happiness,good children,live long with her husband and finally attain good worlds after death.Our shastras have great respect for women and cares for their welfare!

Some of my views:

1. Every brahmin must start studying vedas as little as possible daily.
2. He should at least recite few verses of the veda daily in Brahma yagya.
3. Every householder must start doing at least Aupasanam and Vaishvadevam daily ,which is not a great task.It will take only 15 minutes.
4. Must avoid shaving during prohibited days.
5. Must not eat onion,garlic,drumstick,raddish etc..
6. Must  at least donate one rupee to a learned vedic brahmin.
7. Must give a handful of green grass to a Swadeshi cow.
8. Married women should wear the traditional dress (like madisaar in South India) at least when they are inside the house and assit his husband in doing vedic rites.
9. Married couples should send their children to vedic gurukulam in the right age(5 to 8 yrs) to learn the vedas and shastras.
10. Marriage to the girl child must be done as earlier as possible atleast at 18yrs if it is not possible at 8yrs of age.
11. Must try to learn sanskrit daily.

12.  Must plant vedic  ritual trees like arasu,atthi,vanni.PALASHA(butea monosperma),KARUNGALI(black catechu),maavalingam,neer nocchi,munja grass,ecchi which are nearing extinction.Without these trees vedic rituals are impossible.So try to plant these around your surroundings.If not atleast donate these trees to friends and relatives who will take care of it.

13.  We people did not get the opportunity to learn vedas & shastras at an earlier age.Atleast let our children start studying them earlier and grow as responsible brahmins.Its in the hands of the parents.

14.  Visit your near by temple in your traditional attire (Pancha kaccha,madisaar).

15.  House holders must donate food to brahmancharis learning vedas and to sanyasins.If this this not possible in your area,atleast collect six handful of uncooked rice in a pot and donate it to a veda patashala or mutts where sanyasins live.

16.  Do shraadha to your parents  every amavasya if they are no more.Atleast do it annaully once on their death thithi by giving offerings in agni.

17.  Do shannavathi (96)tharpanam to your ancestors in a year.(Thithis are Amavasya,manvathi,yugadhi,vaidridhi,ashtaka,anvashtaka,ardodaya,mahodaya,birth of every month which totals 96.These can be known with the help of your almanac/Panchang.Only sankalpa changes in these tharpanams.All other are same as Amasvyaasya tharpanam)

18.  Donate generoulsy to  vedic brahmins who are doing Agnihotra,soma yagyas.

19.  Try to avoid spending much time in watching TV.Utilize the time in useful manner by doing spiritual sadhanaas which would remove our sins and give mental peace.

20.  Do pranayaamam and meditation regularly while doing sandhya vandhanam.
